It’s hoped that an increased funding allocation for West Clare will create employment and upskilling opportunities in the town of Kilrush.
This month’s meeting of the West Clare Municipal District has seen the announcement of €441,000 in 2024 General Municipal Allocation funding for the region, which will largely go towards discretionary projects and community organisations.
The lack of opportunities in Kilrush has come into focus in recent weeks following a study carried out by Pobal which found the urban part of the town to be the only area in Clare classed as “extremely disadvantaged”.
Cathaoirleach of the West Clare Municipal District and Independent Councillor Ian Lynch is adamant the funding should be put towards creating jobs for local people while also making them more employable.
