Hope Expressed That Bunratty Folk Park Could Take On Herd Of Rare Native Irish Cattle

It’s hoped Bunratty Folk Park could soon be home to a herd of a rare and native breed of Irish cattle.

The Droimeann cow is thought to date back as far as the year 920AD and has been brought back from the brink of extinction thanks to extensive efforts by the Droimeann Cattle Society.

It was finally recognised as a distinctive breed in April of this year and will be given official status by the Department of Agriculture, which will open an Irish herd book for the Droimeann cow next month.
