With restoration works continuing from first light again today, 668 premises across the county remain without power this afternoon.

At the height of the storm, wind speeds of up to 140 kilometres per hour were recorded in Clare, with 16,000 homes and business in total losing supply across the county.

The ESB has confirmed extensive damage was caused to electrical infrastructure, the likes of which it claims has not been seen since Storm Ophelia made landfall in 2017.

Power has been restored to the majority of properties here, but ESB Clare Area Manager, Alan Hogan, says approximately 250 customers will remain without power tonight, and that smaller pockets out outages may not be rectified until later in the week.

Elsewhere, water supply has been returned to Cratloe and Parteen and the surrounding areas following interruptions to the supply after the onset of Storm Darragh.

Uisce Eireann are warning that following the return of supply, customers may experience low water pressure and disruption or short-term discolouration to their water.

An alternative water supply at Woodcross bar in Cratloe remains in place.

Clare people are being urged, meanwhile, to document any evidence of damages and to contact their insurance provider before engaging in any repair works, if they are considering making a claim.

Damage to homes and cars from fallen trees and debris, death of livestock and loss of food supply are all examples of what can be claimed for in the aftermath of the storm.

Head of claims at Campion Insurance, Stephen McKenna, is warning that any reconstruction works must been done ‘in tandem’ with an insurance provider.
