Homelessness in the Midwest region has risen by more than a third in the past year.
It’s been revealed more than 120 people engaged with Clare County Council’s Homeless Action Team between late November and early December.
The Department of Housing says 425 people were considered homeless across the counties of Clare and Limerick in November.
63 of those were in this county, with those levels having remained static over the past month.
There’s a 60/40 split in terms of the number of males and females homeless in the region, with more than half of those aged between 25 and 44.
There are 11 people considered homeless by the Department in either Clare or Limerick who are aged over 65.
Clare County Council’s homeless services dealt with 129 clients between November 18th and December 8th, with 27 of these new clients.
The Council says many of those presenting avoided ‘possible homeless situations’ due to early intervention by its Action Team.
Just eight counties have higher numbers of homeless people recorded in the last month than Clare.
