A commencement notice is issued to a local building control authority when a person or business intends to carry out works on a property and is generally considered an indicator of construction activity.

So far this year, there have been 77 commencement notices issued to Clare County Council, a jump of 30 on last year’s figures.

Meanwhile, there were 265 home starts in Clare in the first three months of 2024, this marks a 95% increase on the 136 recorded in same period in 2023.

This is also a record high figure for the period since the data series began in 2015.

Additionally, of these home starts, 66 were for one-off residential commencements.

Nationally, there was construction started on almost 12,000 new homes in the first three months of the year, up 63% from the same period last year.
