Funding for detailed design works for the new Holy Island Visitor Centre has been hailed as an important boost for East Clare.
As part of nearly €7 million in funding for Clare, under the Rural Regeneration Scheme, the government has announced €920,000 for the design of the visitor centre, which will be located in Shannon, as well as other associated works and an interpretation strategy for the island.

There are strong hopes amongst tourism operators in East Clare that Holy Island can become a signfiicant draw for visitors to come to the East Clare area.
Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey says this money brings that one step closer.
