The local authority has paid five thousand euro at an auction in Dublin for the journal and autograph book of Patrick Brennan, who was one of an estimated 1,800 Irish participants of the 1916 Easter Rising detained at Frongoch.

The album features accounts of life in the Welsh camp, as well as autographs from Michael Collins and Richard Mulcahy, who would later become instrumental figures in the ensuing Irish War of Independence.

Padraig Og O'Ruairc, Author and Historian from Meelick says it had been feared the book would be bought by a private collector.
