HIQA Role Could Be Extended To Include Emergency Accommodation Provision

The role of the health services watchdog could be expanded to include Direct Provision and emergency accommodation.

That’s under a Sinn Féin bill which would extend the role of HIQA to include any emergency housing facility run by the State or councils.

Its Housing spokesman Eoin Ó Broin says current inspections aren’t independent enough.
