HIQA Report Identifies Moderate Issues At Cratloe Nursing Home

A HIQA report has found that the ‘unsecure’ way in which medicine was stored at a Cratloe nursing home posed a risk to both patients and visitors.

The inspection of Sancta Maria Nursing Home found that while the care facility was compliant with regulation overall, some moderate issues needed to be addressed.

The unannounced inspection of Sancta Maria Nursing Home in Cratloe took place between January 29th and 30th last, when 31 residents were there.

Overall, the facility was found to be suitable for its purpose and compliant in most areas.

However, inspectors highlighted a number of minor cases of non-compliance to be dealt with.

Medicines were found to be left unattended on a residents locker in a shared room and not stored securely which posed a risk to both residents and visitors.

This issue has since been addressed, with staff instructed on how best to store it.

The inspector also noted with concern that the emergency plan for evacuation needed updating, which has since taken place.

Overall, there was evidence of good practice in all areas and the inspector stated that the provider and staff demonstrated a comprehensive knowledge of residents’ needs, their likes and dislikes

Residents were also observed to be relaxed and comfortable when conversing with the provider and staff.
