A south-east Clare nursing home has been praised for its efforts in training staff to “recognise and respond to allegations of abuse”.
It follows a previous inspection which found the facility had failed to report or investigate several potential safeguarding incidents.
The Health Information and Quality Authority visited Cratloe Nursing Home for an unannounced inspection on July 24th last year.
The facility was subsequently found not to be compliant in the areas of notification of incidents and protection, with the health watchdog noting that “several potential safeguarding incidents had not been appropriately reported, documented and investigated”.
HIQA returned to the designated centre for older people on July 7th of this year when 29 residents were present.
In its newly-published inspection report, it says it found “evidence of improvements in protection and the management of responsive behaviours”.
It’s also stated that inspectors observed “systems in place to safeguard residents and protect them from the risk of abuse”.
The report identifies issues in a number of areas however such as fire precautions, condition of the premises, residents rights, contracts for the provision of care services, complaints procedure, and governance and management.
In all, the facility was found not to be compliant in five areas in which it was assessed.
The provider, Cosgrave Nursing Consultancy Limited, has completed a full compliance plan explaining how the issues identified will be rectified.
