According to The Irish Times, the health watchdog HIQA is growing 'frustrated' with years of inaction within the HSE on refurbishment – and is introducing a 'get tough' policy.

HIQA's proposed to refuse registration to two un-named centres – while a further 10 may be barred from accepting new residents.

Earlier this year, reports named St. Joseph's in Ennis and Raheen Community Nursing Unit in Tuamgraney as being among 21 nursing homes nationwide which were in danger of closure because they don't meet the required standards.
