A Clare doctor is calling for a full review of the use of powerful sedatives in nursing homes.
Consultant Psychiatrist Dr. John Hillery from Spanish Point is commenting following reports that thousands of older people are being given psychotropic drugs to subdue challenging behaviour.
Most of these drugs are not authorised for use on people over the age of 65 or those suffering with dementia because they can double the risk of death and treble the risk of stroke.
