Clare’s road funding for 2011 has increased despite a drop in the national road budget.
Clare County Council will receive an allocation of almost 5 and a half million euro from the Department of Transport, up over a million euro on last year – for the improvement and maintenance of the road network.
The Department’s national roads budget this year stands at over 866 million euro, down from 1.1 billion last year – the funds cover all national primary and secondary routes.
Senior Roads Engineer with Clare County Council Tom Tiernan, has welcomed the funding, but says roads damaged during the big freeze are not covered by the funds but will be covered by a separate allocation.
