The company has announced a 400 million euro expansion of services which will benefit 21 rural areas in Clare.

Eircom is investing 400 million euro in the expansion of their service, providing online access to homes and businesses in rural areas across the country.

A number of areas in Clare including Ballyvaughan, Carron, Doonaha, Kilkee, Kilmaley, Ogonnelloe and Lisseycasey are guaranteed full access to high-speed broadband within the next five years under the plan.

The company has committed to providing access to 1.6 million homes and businesses across the country in the next year and the company's Director of Corporate Affairs says they're on track to reach that.

Paul Bradley says most homes in Clare will soon have high speed access but says this will take some time.

Eircom says that while it's not commercially viable for the company to provide blanket coverage across the country, the Government's National Broadband Plan will ensure full access in the next five years.

The Burren is one of the areas in Clare that won't benefit from the current roll-out.

Dave Brocklebank from Burren Yoga and Burren Broadband Initiative says the lack of broadband is preventing businesses from providing services to their customers.
