Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan has confirmed that up to three hundred trainees are to be hired before the end of next year – with the first intake expected in July.

Clare’s Chief Superintendent John Kerin has already expressed concern about the impact of reduced Garda numbers here, and it’s now hoped some of these new officers will be deployed across the County.

Mayor of Clare and Chair of the JPC Joe Arkins says he is looking forward to seeing more guards in the county.
