A solicitor for Pat Hickey’s family says the Irish government should be doing more to protect his rights and ensure due process is followed.
The OCI president has been in prison for almost two weeks now, but his legal team is hopeful of securing his release as early as today.

The 71-year-old was arrested at a hotel in Rio on August 17th as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged ticket touting at the Olympic Games.
Anne Marie James, a Dublin based solicitor who’s representing the Hickey family, claims his detention at the notorious Bangu prison is dreadful.
Ms. James has criticised our government’s handling of the case and what she claims to be a failure to adequately protect the interests of an Irish citizen in custody abroad.
She has also raised concerns about the level of publicity and the effect it’s having on his family.
Kevin Mallon, a director at THG Sports who was also arrested as part of the investigation, was released over the weekend under certain conditions and Mr. Hickey’s lawyers are hopeful of securing their client’s release as early as today.
