Visiting restrictions have been put in place at the region’s main hospital, as staff deal with an outbreak of the norovirus on one ward.

There are currently eight patients on Ward 1B at University Hospital Limerick presenting with symptoms of the virus, which is commonly known as the winter vomiting bug.

The illness is highly contagious and as a result, UHL management have put a ban on visiting patients on Ward 1B until further notice.
