Time To “Think Outside The Box” When Dealing With Drug Use Says Clare’s Senator

Clare’s Fine Gael Senator is calling for a citizens assembly approach to be taken towards dealing with problem drug use in Ireland.

Proposals to ease the law around possession of drugs for personal use are due before the Cabinet in the coming weeks.

Under the plans, someone caught with a small amount of a drug such as cannabis would be referred to an addiction or counselling service.

Senior doctors have raised concerns that we’re sleep-walking into legalising drugs and Ennistymon Senator Martin Conway, who supports decriminalising drug use, believes these concerns and others need to be examined in detail.
