Sage Advocacy Calls For Increased Supports For Vulnerable After HIQA St Joseph’s Report

A leading advocacy group for older and vulnerable people says more support for the elderly to stay in their own homes in Clare is needed from government.

It’s after a report published by HIQA earlier this week found some residents of St Joseph’s Hospital in Ennis “went a period of months” without a shower as the facility attempted to suppress a COVID-19 outbreak in March.

The HSE has confirmed that an independent review is being carried out into the circumstances that led to the report.

Sage Advocacy Executive Director Sarah Lennon believes further supports are needed to keep people in their own homes for as long as possible.
