The male student contracted coronavirus after a recent trip to Northern Italy and is now being treated in an isolated unit in hospital.

The school he attends in Dublin has been shut as a result.

This woman’s husband coaches football to some of the students.

The staff and students at the school have been told to restrict their movements for the next two weeks.

They will be texted each day to see if they’ve any symptoms until the school reopens.

Deputy Chief Medical officer Dr Ronan Glynn explains what exactly this means.

The Department of Health is defending its decision not to name the affected school saying it’s to protect the patient to encourage people to keep coming forward if they’ve symptoms.

These people in the local area have mixed views on this decision.

The Department of Health is due to give a further update on the Irish situation with the coranavirus this evening.

Meanwhile, one leading virologist is reassuring people in Clare that there’s no need to panic.

Assistant Professor of Virology at Trinity College, Dr Kim Roberts says the fatality rate associated with the virus is low and the vast majority of people will recover swiftly from it.

She’s told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that good hand hygiene is the most effective way of protecting yourself against COVID-19.
