Numbers Waiting For Hospital Appointment In MidWest Drops By Almost 14% In A Year

The number of people waiting for a hospital appointment in Ennis or Limerick has dropped by almost 14% this September, compared to last.

The latest figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund show that almost 46,000 adults and children are waiting to see a consultant in the region.

Overall, there were 45,776 adults and children on the hospital waiting list in the MidWest this September.

This is a near 14% drop on the 52,567 who were waiting for an appointment in the same month last year.

This September, there were more almost 4,800 children waiting to be seen by a consultant at either Ennis Hospital or University Hospital Limerick.

This is relatively similar to the almost 5,000 who were on the list in September 2021.

The biggest waiting list is for an outpatient appointment at UHL, with just over 37,000 adults in need of care.

This is a drop of nearly 16% on the same time last year.

Significant progress has been made between this year and last with in the number of adults waiting more than 18 months for an outpatient appointment at the region’s main hospital.

11,348 adults were recorded as waiting more than a year and a half this September, a 52% drop on the almost 19,500 waiting the same period of time to be seen last September.
