A total of 25,097 procedures were carried out at Ennis Hospital in 2021 – a drop of nearly 13% on the 28,789 which were completed prior to the pandemic in 2019.

2021 saw nearly 17,000 daycase procedures undertaken and almost 8,300 in-patients in Clare.

The most common appointments were for urinary system procedures – with nearly 5,400 day patients receiving such care.

This was followed by the nearly 5,000 patients who attended for haemodialysis.

The highest number of in-patient appointments were for non-invasive, cognitive and other interventions – with nearly 3,300 people undergoing these procedures.

This was followed by the 1,336 obstetric procedures for in-patients at Ennis Hospital in 2021.

The average length of stay for those undergoing a procedure at the hospital was nearly 7 and a half days.

Notably, the number of patients undergoing haemodialysis in Ennis increased by over 40% on pre-pandemic levels, one of the few procedures which saw increased demand.
