Ennis Injury Unit Has “Vital Role” As ULHG Prepares For COVID Surge

The UL Hospitals Group says the injury unit at Ennis General Hospital will play a vital role as they brace for a surge in COVID-19 cases.

The emergency department at University Hospital Limerick has been ringfenced for treatment of those with severe coronavirus symptoms, as well as other seriously ill patients, during the pandemic.

This means they will be relying more than ever on the injury unit in Ennis, as well as those in St John’s Hospital in Limerick and in Nenagh, to alleviate pressure.

Consultant in Emergency Medicine at UHL Dr Gareth Quin says it will need buy in from those seeking hospital treatment in the coming weeks and months.

From this weekend, the injury unit in Ennis will be open from 8am to 7pm seven days a week.
