Ennis Covid Vaccine Centre To Close With Testing To Be Scaled Back At Ballymaley

Two of the three Covid-19 vaccination centres in the MidWest will close this weekend.

The centre at Ennis Hospital will cease operations at lunchtime on Saturday as the vaccination programme enters a new phase.

Changes are also being made at Covid-19 testing centres, Clare FM’s Rebecca O’Sullivan reports.

As part of a wider reorganisation by the HSE nationally, the roll-out of the Covid-19 vaccination model in the MidWest will change in the coming days.

The vaccine centres at Ennis Hospital and Nenagh Hospital are to close, while the centre at Scoil Carmel in Limerick city will remain open.

The last doses will be administered at Ennis Hospital on Saturday at 1pm, while Nenagh will cease operations on Sunday at 5pm.

Scoil Carmel is one of only 15 centres nationwide which will remain in use, and will operate two days a week for appointments and walk-ins.

The Limerick facility will be open on Fridays from 8.30am to 6.30pm and on Saturdays from 8.30am to 5pm for those eligible for a primary or booster vaccine dose.

The HSE say the remaining vaccination centres in combination with the ongoing work of GP’s and pharmacists can provide the necessary level of vaccination to the population for the rest of the year.

More than 558,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been delivered by vaccination teams in UL Hospitals Group and HSE MidWest Community Healthcare to date.

This is outside of the work carried out by GP’s, pharmacies and the National Ambulance Service.

Meanwhile, changes are also being introduced at Covid-19 testing centres across the MidWest.

From Friday, the Ennis testing site at Ballymaley Business Park, as well as the testing sites in Limerick and Nenagh will operate from 8.45am to 4.30pm daily, with each site closing for 30 minutes between 1pm and 1.30pm for lunch each day.
