Election Candidates Urged To Take Care When Discussing Mental Health

A West Clare Psychiatrist is urging election candidates to be cautious when discussing mental health on the campaign trail.

The College of Psychiatrists is welcoming references to developing mental health services, mental health promotion and other proposals around mental health over the next five to six days of intense pre-general election activity.

But it’s asking that candidates refrain from using inappropriate terms, which could cause hurt, further stigma and misinformation around mental illness disorders and distress.
