Efforts Continuing To Secure Newmarket-On-Fergus GP

Efforts are continuing to secure a GP to fill the vacant post for Newmarket on Fergus.

A family doctor had been found to replace Dr Colm Hackett, who recently retired, and was due to start in the coming days, but that has now fallen through.

Clare FM understands, however, that the position has now been offered to another GP.

However, Clare’s Independent TD Michael Harty is concerned it could be some time before the position is filled.

With limited space on GP lists in nearby towns, the situation in Newmarket-on-Fergus has led to concern among many in the community, particularly the older population.

Eimear Murphy, from Obair says the lack of a permanent GP has had a big impact, but she’s hopeful one will be in place soon.
