Covid Outbreak At UHL Affecting Six In-patient Wards

The UL Hospitals Group is currently managing an outbreak of Covid-19 at the region’s main hospital which is affecting six inpatient wards.

The number of Covid patients at University Hospital Limerick has jumped by 19% in 24 hours, with 67 COVID-positive inpatients there this morning, the highest number of any hospital in the country.

It represents a rise of 11 on the same time the previous day.

The number being treated in ICU has risen by 2 over the past five days, to four.

The UL Hospitals Group says high levels of COVID-19 infection circulating within the community has led to an increase in COVID-19 activity across hospital sites.

A spokesperson for the hospital has said “high levels of COVID-19 infection circulating within the community has led to an increase in COVID-19 activity across our hospital sites.

As of Wednesday, June 15th, there are 67 COVID-positive inpatients being treated in University Hospital Limerick, of whom four are receiving critical care, either in the Intensive Care or High Dependency Units.

This is a fluid figure, as new cases are admitted and current cases discharged. We are also managing a COVID outbreak in UHL that has affected six inpatient wards”.
