Clare Professor Calls For Community Healthcare Exposure For Medical Students To Combat GP Crisis

A Clare doctor is calling for the restructuring of Medical course work placements to encourage more students to take up careers as general practitioners.

It follows the Irish College of GP’s annual conference, which found that Ireland is currently facing an acute shortage of over 1,800 service providers.

Meanwhile one in seven General Practitioner’s operating nationally are currently aged 65 and over and are likely to retire in the coming years.

Ballyvaughan native & Professor of General Practice at the University of Limerick, Dr Liam Glynn says students need more exposure to community healthcare settings to ensure GP Careers remain an attractive option.
