A total of 46,711 adults and children were waiting to be seen by a consultant at University Hospital Limerick or Ennis Hospital last month.

This marks a 12.4% drop on the same time last year when almost 53,000 people were waiting for an appointment.

It’s also a decrease of 1.5% on those still in need of care in July.

Over 95% of people on the list in the region are waiting to be seen at UHL.

More than 5,000 children are waiting on a hospital appointment – with almost 1,600 kids waiting more than 18 months to be seen.

Nearly 5,700 adults and 1,700 minors are waiting for an outpatient appointment at the region’s main hospital to see an Ear, Nose, Throat specialist.

At Ennis Hospital, nearly 53% of adult patients are waiting for a cardiology outpatient appointment.

While the waiting list is decreasing overall, the number of children waiting to be seen has increased compared to last August – rising by 3% in a year.
