Health officials are urging people in Clare to avail of the flu vaccine after evidence has emerged that the virus is circulating in the region in recent weeks.
There have been 14 confirmed cases of influenza in the Midwest across the flu season this year, with 9 new cases during the week beginning February 6th, according to the Computerised Infectious Disease Reporting system.
The Department of Public Health Mid-West is warning that further increases in infections in the community are expected, as society returns to pre-pandemic levels of social activity.
They say flu is a highly infectious illness that affects all age groups and may result in serious disease, with poor outcomes for the most vulnerable, particularly the elderly and those with weak immune systems.
