Health Minister Vows To Address Long-Term Hospital Waiting

The Health Minister says the HSE has been told to cut the maximum waiting time for outpatient appointments.

Leo Varadkar's comments com as new figures show there were 405,000 people waiting to be seen at an outpatient clinic at the end of March.

The figure for the MidWest stands at nearly 30,000, while figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund show almost 3,000 of these have been waiting for more than a year.

Leo Varadkar says the HSE has been mandated to cut maximum waiting times to 18 months by the end of June, and 15 months by the end of the year.
