NPHET is meeting today to discuss possible changes to guidelines, before the Government publishes its plan next Tuesday.

The Health Minister says some restrictions will be relaxed quickly once the road map is published next week.

NPHET is currently meeting to discuss the easing of all remaining restrictions, ahead of the Government publishing its plan next Tuesday.

Minister Stephen Donnelly says once everyone who wants a vaccine has been vaccinated, the use of the digital covid cert for indoor dining will no longer be required.

The latest HSE data suggests more than 90 percent of the adult population is now at least partially vaccinated against the virus, with 86 per cent now fully protected.

Minister Donnelly says a timeline for ending restrictions will be clearly laid out in the road map.

A North Clare GP believes, however, that the full easing of COVID-19 restrictions shouldn’t happen until the elderly and immuno-compromised have been given booster shots.

No formal recommendation has yet been made to administer a booster programme in Ireland, but it looks likely to begin for over 80’s in the Autumn.

Lahinch GP Dr Michael Kelleher says there are cases occuring in those who have received vaccines in this county, but he’s reassuring says those who are fully vaccinated and testing positive for COVID are not becoming seriously ill.
