Health Minister insists Ennis General future is secure

The Health Minister has insisted the future of hospital services in Clare is secure with the official opening of the new 50 bed ward blocks and endoscopy services in Ennis.

Minister James Reilly has paid his first official visit to Ennis General in the last hour, and says there’s a bright future for the local hospital despite changes to A and E and acute medical services there in recent years,

Minister Reilly has also faced questions on overcrowding at the region’s main Accident and Emergency centre in Limerick, where 38 patients were on trolleys during one recent day of overcrowding.

Speaking to Clare FM, the Minister insisted his special delivery unit is working to address capacity problems like this
