The Health Minister has confirmed the assessment of a drug which would change the lives of two Clare children with cystic fibrosis is a ‘top priority’.
The HSE has been in discussions with pharmaceutical company Vertex since last May to provide the drug Kaftrio to 35 young children with a specific genetic condition.
A health technology assessment (HTA) has now been ordered, despite the drug already being approved for 140 children with cystic fibrosis, but who have a different genotype.
