The Health Minister is to break ground on the new 96-bed block at the region’s main hospital today.
Minister Stephen Donnelly is to turn the sod on the facility at University Hospital Limerick, which is to create 48 new inpatient beds in real terms.

Senior management within the UL Hospitals Group say a second such unit will be needed in the long term to cater for population increases and continued high demand in the region.
Clare Fianna Fail TD Cathal Crowe, who’s a member of the Oireachtas Health Committee, says while it’s a significant progress, there’s a lot more work to do.
