Health Minister asked to retain services at Ennis general

The Minister for Health is being asked to retain current services at Ennis General Hospital amid fears of further downgrading next month.

Members of Clare County Council have given their unanimous backing to a motion that the present level of services be maintained in Ennis following last week’s protest meeting in which nurses called for a halt to plans for the transfer of acute medical facilites to Limerick on March 1st.

Mayor of Clare Christy Curtin said that a letter should be sent to the Health Minister and Tainaiste Mary Coughlan to ensure no further downgrading takes place ahead of the election of a new government.

Councillors also agreed that services at St Joseph’s Hospital in Ennis be included in the formal request.
