Health campaigner gives caution welcome to hospitals framework

A Clare health campaigner says he’s giving a ‘very cautious welcome’ to government plans for the future of healthcare in the Mid West.

The government’s framework for Ireland’s hospitals, published this week, confirms the replacement of A&E at the county hospital with medical assessment and local injuries units, open up to twelve hours per day.

However, Independent Councillor James Breen feels the plan shows pre-election promises regarding the retention of accident and emergency cover have been broken.

The former TD is critical of Clare’s Fianna Fail and Fine Gael TDs in particular
