The Head of the IFA in Clare is rejecting claims that some farm families are blocking hospital beds by keeping relatives in hospitals to avoid incurring the cost of nursing homes.
Confidential documents show the HSE’s head of legal services Eunice O’Raw said that, in some cases, the wider family wants to avoid having the patient’s assets used to fund a nursing home place through the Fair Deal scheme.
She also claimed this is being done to avoid penalties on the farm holdings.
