Plans to bring vacant homes back into use have been dismissed as a “hair-brained idea” by the head of the Clare County Council committee that deals with Housing.
Housing Minister Eoin Murphy is looking at a number of measures to free-up vacant houses across the country including the establishment of an empty homes unit and a website where people can anonymously log suspected vacant properties.
Owners of vacant properties are being warned they’ll face fines unless they’re brought back into use, while plans also include encouraging elderly people living in nursing homes to rent out their property.
