The head of the Clare Garda Division says everyone in this county has a “role to play” in preventing crime from taking place.
This quarter’s Clare Joint Policing Committee meeting has heard that there’s been an almost across-the-board increase in property crime, with thefts from shops up 54% to 503 between January and October.
Similarly, burglaries in this county are up 28% while other forms of theft, such as that of farm machinery or fuel from a vehicle, are up 22%.
With such incidents expected to peak during the Christmas shopping season, Chief Superintendent of the Clare-Tipperary Garda Division Colm O’Sullivan is advising shoppers to take precautions so they are not creating “an opportunity for crime”.
