40% Jump In Clare COVID Cases In A Week

The number of new COVID-19 cases diagnosed in Clare has jumped by more than 40 percent in the past week.

New figures show the Shannon and Ennis regions still have the highest prevalence of the virus in this county.

Data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre shows 341 cases of COVID were diagnosed here in the two weeks up to this past Monday.

That compares to 238 cases in the fortnight up to the Monday before.

105 new cases of the virus were detected in Shannon in that 14 days, and its prevalence now stands at 345.4 per 100,000 people.

Ennis, which public health officials have said has been dealing with an outbreak of concern recently, saw 104 cases in the same timeframe, and is now at 336.5.

50 cases in the East Clare area mean its rate sits at 248.7, and a further 39 cases in the Ennistymon electoral area mean its case load per 100,000 is at 237.7.

The virus remains least prevalent in the Kilrush district, though it’s still increasing there, at 204.8 after 43 new cases.

Clare’s average prevalence is now at 274.6 – while climbing, it’s still well below the nationwide average of 422.5.
