Clare’s Independent TD is welcoming an agreement to keep St Joseph’s Hospital in Ennis open – saying anything else would have set a dangerous precedent.
Earlier this year, the HSE appealed a HIQA decision to place restrictions on new admissions at the public care facility, on the back of structural concerns.

It was the first legal case of its kind and now it’s been confirmed these restrictions will no longer apply and HSE solicitors will ask the court to strike out the case.
Independent TD Dr Michael Harty says if it had been upheld, it would’ve had a negative knock-on impact on similar facilities:
