Clare’s Independent TD has welcomed confirmation that a new permanent GP has been appointed for Newmarket-on-Fergus.
It had been feared that the town would be left without a family doctor service, with the retirement of the local GP Dr Colm Hackett.

The ongoing crisis in terms of the recruitment and retention of Irish medics continues to be a challenge, with many towns struggling to replace doctors who retire or move on to a fresh challenge, adding pressure on nearby services.
