Clare's Independent TD has suggested that Ireland take an independent approach to Brexit, rather than tying itself to the EU's strategy.
Deputy Michael Harty has pressed Taoiseach Enda Kenny to look after Ireland's interests in the upcoming negotiations, saying the European stance does not necessarily represent what's best for this country.
Speaking in the Dáil, he suggested that Ireland take a more tactical approach in the upcoming talks
Deputy Harty was speaking in the aftermath of the government's publication of their Rural Action Plan earlier this week.
He's disappointed that the document didn't do more to take Brexit into account
The Taoiseach rejected Deputy Harty's claims that Ireland's approach has been "vague and un-co-ordinated.'
He outlined how their strategy is to continue to implement the programme for government and to extend diplomatic negotiations with other countries.
