Clare’s independent TD is criticising what he calls the dominance that Dublin airport is exerting over air travel in this country.

Michael Harty has hit out at a joint advertising campaign by Aer Lingus and the DAA which has been carried in local newspapers in Clare and Limerick, calling it an attempt to cannibalise passengers from Shannon Airport.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said it’s not up to him to issue directives on advertising, saying that Shannon has it’s own capacity to get it’s own message out.

But Deputy Harty says his message is not just about advertising but balanced regional development also.
