Harris Acknowledges Potential ‘Consequences’ From St. Joseph’s Case

The Health Minister has acknowledged that an ongoing court case concerning St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ennis could have ‘significant consequences.’

In a first-of-its-kind legal case, the HSE brought HIQA to the courts in Ennis earlier this year after the health watchdog issued an order which would have effectively closed the county home to new admissions.

That case was adjourned after a settlement was struck, but the matter remains before the courts and the HSE is committed to refurbishing the facility, and bringing it up to standards, by 2021.
