Over Half Of Clare Primary Pupils In Classrooms With More Pupils Than Department Recommendations

Over half of Clare primary school children are learning in classrooms with more pupils than recommended by the Department of Education.

New figures suggest more than 7,000 young students in this county are studying in classes with more than 25 pupils.

More than 2,500 children are in classrooms with over 30 students, while 178 are learning with 35 pupils or more in the same room.

Aontu Midwest member and primary teacher Eric Nelligan, whose party uncovered the figures, believes new measures are needed from the Department to ensure smaller class sizes in schools.
