Over half a million euro was recovered from welfare cheats in Clare last year.
The figures have been revealed to the Dáil by The Minister for Social Protection.
Minister Leo Varadkar says his Department's policy is to pursue prosecutions in cases of fraud, where this is appropriate.
Fraud related overpayments are costly to the state, amounting to over 163 million euro in the three years to last December.
In 2015, 26.7 million of this was recovered, including 517 thousand euro from people in Clare.
This amount is lower than 16 other counties.
Nationally, jobseekers allowance accounted for 42% of the money recovered, though money had been fraudulently claimed in respect of 32 different welfare schemes.
