The Garda Commissioner imposed sanctions on 154 officers last year – following Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission investigations.

The latest GSOC annual report also shows that convictions were taken against six members of the force and one civilian during 2011.
Two of the Gardaí were handed down custodial sentences.
There was a slight increase in complaints last year to 2-thousand-275 – with abuse of authority topping the list – but 896 were deemed inadmissible.
One of the GSOC Commissioners – Kieran Fitzgerald – also says co-operation with inquiries from Gardaí is only satisfactory:
