Growth recorded in Irish economy

The economy grew by almost 2 per cent in the second quarter of the year, according to new figures from the CSO.

However the Finance Minister has warned this won't lead to a "daft spending spree" in the budget, despite it being an election year.

Michael Noonan said that the govenment needs to keep a steady hand on the economy to avoid falling back into crisis mode. 

He said that despite the strong growth, there is plenty of work left to do.
